Northern Rivers Pet Photography: The Three Spots I Love Most

Here are the three locations I use most, why they work, and how I keep sessions safe and relaxed for every dog.

Boulder Beach, East Ballina

Boulder Beach shines at sunrise. The red and orange cliffs, pathways, and rocky textures create strong lines and simple variety. We can keep it easy with a short walk from the car park for pandanus and the point in the background, or explore a little further if your dog is up for it.

  • Best for: active dogs that like to run and play, families who want a clean coastal look
  • Access: short walk with some uneven ground; not ideal for seniors unless they can be carried
  • Safety: on‑lead area; I use long lines for movement and remove leads in Photoshop
  • Timing: sunrise for soft light and fewer distractions but its also beautiful at sunset.

Pine Forest, East Ballina

The forest offers deep greens you won’t find elsewhere in the Northern Rivers and a quiet alternative to the beach. Tall trunks frame portraits well, and the light suits both action and still shots.

  • Best for: dogs who find the beach overstimulating; people who prefer a simple, natural backdrop
  • Access: short walk, uneven ground; bring mosquito repellent
  • Safety: on‑lead area; long lines for safe running, leads removed in post

Lennox Head Studio

The studio is calm and controlled. I can switch backgrounds and props to match your dog’s look and your style, and we can take breaks as needed.

  • Best for: senior dogs, shy or nervous pups, and clean, classic portraits
  • The look: headshots, sitting/lying portraits, and family photos without weather or distractions
  • Safety: no leads needed

What to bring

  • Favourite toys and high‑value treats
  • Mosquito repellent for outdoor sessions
  • A flat collar and lead (please avoid harnesses unless you specifically want them in the pictures) ]
  • Water for your dog for outside portraits

Which spot should you choose?

  • Boulder Beach: coastal colour, strong lines, and sunrise light
  • Pine Forest: unique greens and a calm feel away from the beach
  • Studio: comfort, control, and tailored backdrops

There’s no wrong choice. Give me a call, we can have a chat about what will suit your home decor and your dog’s needs.
