I’ve been in your shoes. My gentle, chocolate Lab was attacked three times on a single walk by off‑lead dogs, and after that he reacted to every dog we passed. I remember the knot in my stomach, the second‑guessing, the fear of being judged. That’s exactly why I design sessions around reactive dogs: calm, space, control—and images you’ll love without adding stress.
Five locations that work beautifully for reactive dogs
- Early mornings at the beach
- When the sun is low and the shoreline is quiet, we get soft, flattering light and wide open sightlines so your dog never feels boxed in. It’s usually just runners and the odd photographer, which keeps triggers to a minimum. I plan around tides and choose routes with easy exit options. With a long lens, I can keep plenty of distance and still capture close, emotive images. Boulder Beach is a favourite for exactly these reasons.
- My studio

- A controlled, private space where your dog can be safely off lead and you can exhale. Doors are secured and we pace the session to your dog—slow starts, sniff breaks, and no pressure to “perform.” Backdrops, light, and simple props help highlight expression and personality.
- The woodland (Ballina)
- Quiet trails, soft dappled light, and plenty of room to step off the path if we need space. The textures—moss, bark, leaves—make beautiful, timeless backdrops. I schedule for off‑peak times and use long lines where helpful, so your dog can explore safely while we keep a comfortable bubble from others.
- The private dog park

- We rent the space just for you, which means no surprises at the gate. High fencing, double entries, and total control over who’s there (just us). It’s ideal for decompression, zoomies, and genuine joy without scanning the horizon.
- Your place
- Home is often where reactive dogs feel safest. We’ll work with natural window light, step into the garden if it’s quiet, and keep the setup minimal so your dog stays relaxed. These sessions are perfect for everyday moments—favorite spots on the couch, doorway greetings, sun‑patch naps—that tell the real story of your bond.
If you have a reactive dog, don’t let it hold you back from getting beautiful artwork for your walls. We always have a way around it. Reactive dogs need love too, maybe more so.
